Rental properties for tourists increasing
According to a report in Listin Diario, citing Central Bank statistics, some 288,115 foreign tourists came to the country and did not stay in hotels.

The Central Bank September tourism report revealed that 93.2% of foreign visitors stayed at hotels. The 6% of the tourists who chose to stay in different accommodations is a 10.6% increase over the previous year.

Listin Diario suggests many of the foreign tourists would have stayed at Airbnb properties. There are more than 17,000 Airbnb properties registered in the country. In La Altagracia province alone, where the main tourist hub of Punta Cana is located, there are 3,382 for rent, with an average occupation of 33%.

The average price of these rental properties is US$128 a day, and rental properties are increasing at a rate of 3% every three months, according to AirDNA, a market research firm, specializing in Airbnb.

Looking at other areas, in Santo Domingo AirDNA shows 2,435 active rental properties with an average daily rate of US$66 and 57% occupancy.

In Puerto Plata there are 3,589 rental properties with an average daily rate of US$132, 33% occupancy.

In La Vega, which is mainly Jarabacoa, there are 497 rental properties, with an average price of US$175 a day, a 21% occupancy.
